ROLE SUMMARY The role of the Unit Manager for the clinical department is to ensure ongoing support and training of the permanent staff in accordance with Netcare policies and procedures.The incumbent is further responsible to liaise with the Unit Managers of all departments (including Risk / Incident and Quality departments) to determine training needs per department in line with incident trend analysis. KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES CONSISTENCY OF CARE Research activities • Active involvement in research activities to discover new knowledge about products, processes, and services, and then applying that knowledge to create new and improved products, processes, and services that meet the academic market needs. • Plan, organise, and active involvement in the process and production of all academic related projects • Develop and review evaluation and educational strategies • Motivate and encourage learners to participate in research within their Scope of Practice • Audit and participate in quality improvement programmes to identify problems which may require research Accreditation activities • Implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation. Administration • Keep accurate learner clinical records • Accurate time keeping and control of student time cards on Kronos Academic related projects • Plan, organise and ensure active involvement in the process and production of all academic related projects. Teaching and learning facilitation • Facilitate the clinical learning process by understanding, applying and maintaining adult learning methodologies, presentation techniques and course content to ensure that staff and students acquire skills to a quality and standard in line with student and national qualifications requirements. • Focus on quality orientation in all academic and clinical nursing processes. • Understand, apply and leverage IT & technology systems, tools and/or equipment to facilitate and reinforce the learning process • Clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of educational strategies in a way that engages staff and students and helps them to understand and retain the message • Develop and control of a learner support system • Conduct needs analysis to establish ongoing staff requirements and skill levels • Cooperate with unit managers and hospital management to establish training needs per department • Plan, prepare, implement and manage the education and training requirements as identified per department • Facilitate the implementation of practical learning and accompaniment in clinical areas of permanent employees • Accompany permanent staff on a one-on-one basis in the ward setting to facilitate progressive independence and allow for a safe environment to apply knowledge and skills • Identify and conduct remedial education as required for non-performers as well as for high achievers in collaboration with the unit manager • Facilitate the orientation of all new employees • Coordinate In-service training to meet learner and hospital needs • Draw up an In-service training plan in collaboration with unit managers • Teach permanent staff on the spot whilst conducting clinical accompaniment on ward rounds and document and record this training • Assist with the upgrading of permanent staff Quality and risk management • Maintain professional conduct and standards at all times in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times • Conduct quality assurance activities and risk management. • Ensure awareness of conditions that affect employee and student safety • Focus on the development of academic and clinical nursing processes to ensure quality orientation. • Effective administration of all academic activities to ensure compliance with policies and legislation. • Compliance with all relevant legislative requirements and standards • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety policies and SOPs • Comply with Infection Prevention Control Policies and SOPs TRANSFORMATION OF OUR SOCIETY Teamwork • Actively participate as a member of a team to achieve goals Coaching • Provide timely guidance and feedback to help strengthen skill areas and leverage potential. • Establish, prioritize and coordinate tasks and courses of action for self and others to ensure that work is completed efficiently in a systematized manner. • Provide staff consultation and counselling Resource Allocation • Actively involved in the selection of learners, both at Netcare Education and at hospital Personal and professional development • Active involvement in own professional development to maintain a satisfactory level of skill and knowledge • Keep up to date with Netcare’s evolving policies and procedures Build and maintain stakeholder relationships • Work effectively and co-operatively with others to establish and maintain good working relationships that are mutually beneficial. • Develop collaborative relationships to help accomplish work goal • Create and maintain a positive environment where the differences of others are recognized, understood, and valued, so that all can reach their full potential and maximize their contributions • Facilitate permanent staff integration with their peer groups, co-workers, agencies and the community. DISRUPTIVE INNOVATION Implementing medical technologies, digitisation, and data solutions for the benefit of our business and patients. • CareOn adoption of electronic patient records, e-scripts and clinical orders by doctors and stock management SKILLS PROFILE EDUCATION Essential • Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council or equivalent NQF 7 qualification . • Intermediate computer proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite Preferred • Appropriate qualification in Education • Assessor and moderator trained.
