QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enjoy being with older adults and is comfortable reaching out and including others
  • Patient, friendly and fun; comfortable in a non-competitive, inclusive environment
  • Knowledge and experience with dementia would be an asset
  • Health Care Aide diploma or degree in social work or psychology is preferred
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluently in the English language
  • Excellent communication skills and enjoys leading small groups
  • Strong organizational and relationship-building skills
  • Creative problem solver
  • Experience working with and providing assistance and support to seniors would be an asset
  • Must be an active listener
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality

    HOURS OF WORK: Weekdays, evenings and weekends to meet the dining needs of residents. Part time and Casual positions available.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand/walk for significant periods of time over the course of their shift.
  • May have to assist residents from sit to stand and vice versa
  • Must be able to lift up to 22 Kgs. (50 lbs).
Responsibilities
  • As a United Minds Aide you will:
  • Work with the team to organize, deliver or support small group programs that provide cognitive stimulation to residents.
  • Provide a person-centred approach in working with residents and supporting them to live as independently as possible.
  • Maintain a safe, friendly and warm environment that encourages and supports residents in participating in the program and within the community.
  • Provide individual cognitively stimulating programs on a one-to-one basis.
  • Assist with meal support during lunch and dinner for those residents on the enhanced dining program.
  • Cue or escort residents to community programs or United Minds programs.
  • Include family members/significant others when interacting with residents, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate an appreciation of the heritage, values and wisdom of the residents and an understanding of the aging process, and/or living with a disability.
  • Record observations accurately and document service provided and any resident-related events in Point Click Care, as outlined in the care plan.
  • Observe and report any changes in residents’ physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to Team Leader.
  • Consult with Team Leader to adapt current lifestyle plan that better suits the residents’ needs.
  • Report and record incidents, errors or accidents in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with other members of the Wellness Team to provide resident support.
  • Monitor for environmental safety hazards.
  • Attend ongoing education and training provided by United Active Living.
