JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Dr. Charles P. Darby Jr. Department of Pediatrics’ Division of Cardiology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston is seeking a full-time pediatric cardiac interventionalist to serve as Medical Director of the Pediatric and Congenital Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. This position will be empowered to promote advancements in cardiac procedural techniques, provide mentorship and career development for faculty, and promote the education and training of fellows. The ideal candidate will be board certified in pediatric cardiology with additional training completed in pediatric and congenital interventional cardiology and have at least 5 years of experience. The candidate’s primary responsibilities will be clinically to serve as an interventional cardiologist and administratively to provide overarching leadership for the pediatric and congenital cardiac catheterization laboratory. Other clinical and academic opportunities are available and can be tailored to individual interests. Responsibilities will also include teaching our cardiology fellows, residents, and medical students. Pursuing individual scholarly interests is encouraged and supported.

Our cardiac program has a long history of stability and is the only surgical and interventional center in South Carolina. We provide comprehensive care for complex medical and surgical patients from newborn to adults in our dedicated cardiac intensive care unit. Over 600 cardiac catheterizations and and 450 cardiac operations per year are performed at our center, including 10-18 pediatric cardiac transplants. We were one of a few programs in the country with a 3-star ranking reported by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the highest category for quality and outcomes.
