The Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology is looking for a University Instructor specializing in Bioinformatics. The full-time position is located in the Biomedicine Unit and is filled on a permanent basis.
The Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology (MET) is dedicated to pursuing world-class research and delivering high-quality education in the fields of biotechnology, medicine, biomedical engineering, and health technology. We conduct basic, applied, clinical, and translational research in collaboration with Tampere University Hospital (TAYS). Faculty has strong research and education activities in the area of Bioinformatics, including research profiling area of Health data science and international masters education in Biomedical Informatics. More than 10 research groups are active in these areas.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As University Instructor you are expected to pursue research in your area of expertise and contribute to the curriculum teaching on bioinformatics (and related topics) as well as thesis supervision at Bachelor and Master’s levels.
In addition, the tasks include active participation in teaching management and development activities. The focus of teaching tasks and the relative share of teaching and research can be considered based on the background and interests of the applicant. Initially, teaching responsibilities will include responsibility for a bachelor level bioinformatics course as well as contribution on teaching and teaching development on master level courses. Ability to teach in Finnish is beneficial but not required.

REQUIREMENTS

Candidates for the position of University Instructor must hold an applicable Master’s degree (e.g. bioinformatics, statistics, computer science, etc. with suitable research experience in biosciences) and possess good teaching skills. Doctoral degree, international mobility, and research and teaching experience from a relevant field are considered highly beneficial. Success in the job also requires good organizational and collaboration skills.
When evaluating the qualifications of candidates, we will consider their scientific track record and, their practical experience in the field of the position, as well as teaching experience, pedagogical merits, the ability to produce teaching materials, and other teaching qualifications.
Basic knowledge of Finnish is required to conduct administrative responsibilities. Proficiency in English is required to provide high-quality education and academic supervision to students who are working on their theses within our international campus community.

We offer
The full-time position will be filled on a permanent basis. The expected starting date is 1 August 2025, or on a date mutually agreed upon between the parties. A trial period of 6 months applies to all new employees.
Salaries are based on job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, University Instructors are placed on level 5-6 of the job requirements scale. In addition, employees receive a performance-based salary.
