JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled UNIX Engineer with strong build engineering experience to design, install and configure enterprise UNIX environments from bare metal. This role will focus on building new servers from scratch—covering hardware selection, operating system installation, automation of server deployment, and seamless integration into our existing infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of UNIX system administration, virtualization, automation tools, and networking, with a passion for delivering robust, scalable, and secure systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
• EXPERIENCE:5+ years of UNIX/Linux system administration experience.Proven experience in building servers from scratch, including hardware selection, OS installation, partitioning, and performance tuning.Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, Perl, etc.) and familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef or similar).Experience with virtualized and containerized environments (VMware, KVM, Docker) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) a plus.Familiarity with networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and storage technologies (SAN, NAS, RAID).
• KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:Deep understanding of UNIX operating systems (Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Linux distributions).Strong troubleshooting skills for server, network, and storage issues.
• CERTIFICATIONS (PREFERRED):UNIX/Linux certifications (e.g., Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Solaris System Administrator).ITIL Foundation or similar service management certification.

• End-to-End Server Builds: Plan, build, and configure UNIX servers from bare metal or virtualized environments, including hardware provisioning, OS installation, patching, and baseline configuration.
• Automated Deployment: Develop and maintain automation scripts (using tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Shell scripting) for efficient, repeatable server builds and configuration management.
• System Integration: Integrate newly built servers into network, storage, and monitoring systems while ensuring compliance with company standards and security policies.
• Performance Tuning & Troubleshooting: Optimize system performance, monitor server health, and troubleshoot hardware, OS, and network-related issues during and after deployment.
• Documentation & Standards: Produce and maintain comprehensive documentation of build procedures, configurations, and post-build checklists; contribute to process improvement and standardization of best practices.
• Security & Compliance: Apply security best practices throughout the build process, including hardening OS configurations, implementing user access controls, and ensuring patch management and audit compliance.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams (network, storage, application, and security teams) to ensure seamless integration and alignment of server builds with business requirements.
