Description
SMX is seeking a Mid-Level Unix IA Ops Systems Administrator to join our team at the Patuxent River Data Center (PRDC). This role is primarily focused on Information Assurance (IA) compliance and security operations for Unix/Linux systems across Department of Defense (DoD) networks. The selected candidate will assist in vulnerability management, STIG implementation, audit preparation, and remediation tracking, while also supporting baseline Unix/Linux administration tasks as needed. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Support vulnerability management by running ACAS scans, tracking results, and coordinating remediation activities Implement and validate DISA STIGs to ensure compliance with DoD security standards Assist in the preparation, review, and submission of IA compliance packages (RMF artifacts, POA&Ms, etc.) Document findings, create mitigation plans, and track corrective actions to closure Work with senior engineers and IA teams to address cyber inspection findings and enforce security controls Perform limited Unix/Linux administration to support compliance activities (patching, user access, configuration validation) Collaborate with system owners, security officers, and leadership to maintain audit readiness and continuous compliance Maintain on-site presence for direct coordination with customers and stakeholders Required Skills & Experience Clearance Required: Top Secret 3–5 years of relevant IT/IA experience in a DoD or enterprise environment DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, GSEC, SSCP)Must have thorough troubleshooting skills Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL); exposure to Solaris a plus Hands-on experience with ACAS, DISA STIGs, and RMF compliance workflows Ability to track findings, draft mitigation steps, and maintain compliance records Strong written and verbal communication skills for customer and leadership interaction Desired Skills & Experience Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field (or equivalent experience) Familiarity with Identity Management solutions (IdM/FreeIPA) Exposure to hybrid cloud or DoD Navy network environments Hands on experience with Ansible Basic scripting knowledge (Bash, Python, or similar) to assist with compliance automation Prior experience preparing for or supporting cyber inspections Application Deadline: 10/14/2025 #cjpost #LI-ONSITE The SMX salary determination process takes into account a number of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories, relevant prior work experience, specific skills, education and certifications.
