Description SUMMARY The Upper School Learning Specialist supports the School’s mission and its long-standing commitment to a diverse community of learners. Working alongside two other Learning Specialists in the Upper School’s Academic Resource Center (ARC), the Learning Specialist collaborates and consults with faculty, students, and families in supporting students with diagnosed learning differences. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required. RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborate with other Upper School Learning Specialists to document student needs and progress?? Interpret outside educational evaluations and communicate the content of those evaluations to students, parents, and teachers? Craft individual learning plans that reflect student diagnosis as well as School parameters? Guide students in discussing, developing, and implementing strategies to facilitate their learning? Facilitate communication between students, families, teachers, and outside professionals? Assemble materials from the School’s Learning Management System and other sources to assist students in organizational planning? Assist students in applying for standardized testing accommodation; process the accommodations and proctor testing, when applicable Provide academic support in Upper School’s ARC, ensuring a welcoming and dynamic place for learning? Assist in managing tests for students and the workflow/schedule of tutors Provide study skills resources to students teaching resources to faculty about on-going best practices for students with learning difficulties? Partner with student support team members (counselors, nurses, grade level deans) in meeting student needs? Partner with Learning Specialists in other divisions as needed to support the school’s commitment to prek-12 education? Requirements QUALIFICATIONS BA or BS in Education or in Special Education; Advanced degree preferred (e.g. Masters Level or Higher) in Education or related field Experience in Special Education, and related work with diverse learners Previous school?employment?experience;?independent school experience is a plus? The ideal candidate will demonstrate:? A desire to contribute to a community where the people, culture, and curriculum rely on actively engaging difference? A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (e.g., familiarity with concepts; evidence of relevant personal growth; examples of relevant practice, etc.) Extensive knowledge of learning differences, especially educational diagnostic processes and individualized support? Effective time management, strong organizational ability, detailed-minded problem-solving skills, and excellent follow-through? Excellent written and oral communication skills? Interpersonal skills?needed to create a welcoming and inclusive while working cooperatively with a cross-section of community members (students, faculty, administration, parents, and staff)? Ability to make difficult decisions and communicate reasoning and basis to others?? Familiarity with handling confidential records?? Experience with standardized testing, such as CollegeBoard, ACT, etc.?? Proficiency with various uses of technology?
