During a time of strength, momentum, and growth, McCallie seeks an experienced and dynamic teacher for general, honors, and/or AP Physics 1. The overall approach of our science department is phenomenon based learning. The teacher will join a strong faculty that centers instruction on the boys and engages boys through a variety of teaching styles, including project based learning. The teacher will teach four to five sections and will also be involved in the school's extensive afternoon activity program, coaching a sport, or involved in one of the many extracurricular activities that McCallie offers. In particular, candidates who have experience coaching rowing are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate: passion for and experience teaching and engaging students in real life problem solving; deep scientific curiosity; a background having studied physics, engineering or related field; willingness to work cooperatively with strong faculty, within course teams, and along vertical course sequences; a breadth of STEM training with the ability to make real-life connections to the science This is a 10-month, full-time position. It is considered exempt under the FLSA, and it is eligible for full benefits. Requirements bachelor’s degree in physics, engineering, or related fields; prior teaching experience; and deep understanding of, support for, and desire to live out McCallie’s mission for the good of McCallie boys - including both the school’s Christian foundation and its commitment to the ideals of honor, truth, and duty
Responsibilities
The teacher will instruct four to five sections of general, honors, or AP Physics using phenomenon-based and project-based learning approaches. Additionally, the role requires participation in the school's afternoon activity program, including coaching sports or leading extracurricular activities.
