Position Description: Saint Mary’s Hall seeks a skilled and dynamic Science teacher with a passion for all levels of Physics and Engineering, including AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism and AP Physics C: Mechanics. The ideal candidate will embody a growth-mindset and support developmentally appropriate competencies to the diverse community of learners represented at Saint Mary’s Hall.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.A. in Physics or a related field required, M.A. in Physics or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in teaching coursework in Biology in addition to Physics preferred.
  • Passion for the subject matter and for working with bright, motivated teenagers in a rigorous, collegepreparatory environment.
  • Demonstrated work in creative and innovative approach to curriculum development and implementation.
  • Successful high school or college teaching experience in Computer Science classes
  • Demonstrated commitment to student wellbeing and partnership with student support services.
  • Independent School experience preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Work in a fastpaced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods.
  • Must be able to talk, hear, and visually interact with students, parents, coworkers, visitors, and other professionals.

  • Have a good working knowledge of instructional technology equipment.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climatecontrolled environment.

Responsibilities
  • Teach five classes in the Upper School, providing effective and professional classroom instruction and relevant assessment.
  • Serve as a community advisor to a small group of students.
  • Serve as a faculty sponsor to Student Leadership organizations such as Councils and Clubs.
  • Assess students to evaluate their abilities through the lens of growth mindset and global competencies.
  • Establish regular and effective communication with students and parents.
  • Engage in regular professional development and identifies growthbased goals.
  • Participate in required nonclassroom activities including parent/teacher conferences, faculty meetings, special activities, and performance events.
  • Assist in curriculum coordination and design across the divisions.
  • Model nondiscriminatory and unbiased practices in all activities.
  • Know and comply with SMH policies and procedures.
