Position Overview Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School seeks a skilled, thoughtful, and collaborative educator to serve as an Upper School STEM Teacher for grades 5–8. This role focuses on science, technology, and engineering learning through inquiry-based, project-based, and interdisciplinary instruction. STEM learning at Hausner emphasizes: Learning through investigation, design, and experimentation Conceptual understanding and scientific reasoning Project-based and interdisciplinary learning experiences Real-world applications and authentic problem solving Collaboration, persistence, reflection, and revision STEM classrooms at Hausner are active and hands-on. Students engage in labs, design challenges, data analysis, and structured discourse. Teachers design learning experiences that are intellectually demanding, clearly structured, and accessible through thoughtful scaffolding and differentiation. Professional Qualities and Skills Strong knowledge of middle grade science and STEM instructional best practices Familiarity with Next Generation Science Standards and interdisciplinary STEM frameworks Student-centered approach grounded in curiosity, challenge, and support Experience designing project-based, inquiry-driven learning experiences Ability to differentiate instruction to support a range of learners Strong classroom management grounded in relationships, clarity, and consistency Experience with Vex Robotics, coding experience, or an engineering background is a plus Commitment to collaboration with colleagues and clear communication with families Reflective practice and openness to feedback and professional growth Comfort using educational technology, including Google Suite and classroom learning tools Responsibilities Include Teach multiple sections of STEM courses in grades 5–8 Design and implement engaging, inquiry-based, and project-driven STEM units Collaborate with STEM colleagues to support coherence across grade levels Work with grade-level teams to integrate learning across disciplines when appropriate Review student work and assessment data to inform instruction and support growth Serve as an Upper School advisor supporting students’ academic and social development Develop and teach an Upper School elective during the school year Communicate regularly with students and families about progress and expectations Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional learning, and school events Take part in school programs such as Open House and Back to School Night Accompany students on an annual overnight field trip Fulfill other duties as assigned Requirements Experience and Education Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university Undergraduate degree or at least 24 semester units in science, technology, engineering, or a closely related field Prior middle school teaching experience preferred Valid teaching credential preferred Master’s degree in a related field preferred Compensation Competitive salary range: $85,000-$105,000 annually, dependent on experience Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 403b Retirement Plan, Long- and Short-term Disability, Voluntary Life and Accident Insurance, Work-Life Balance Employee Assistance Program, and pre-tax options for commuter benefits and flexible spending accounts Other: This posting does not necessarily represent a comprehensive list of responsibilities or qualifications.
