Description
Design advanced / pre-program Exterior Trim and Ornamentation components (such as Exterior Moldings, Roof Racks, and Running Boards). Coordinate with all stakeholders (Planning, Marketing, Studio, Finance, Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, etc.) to achieve functional requirements and timing. Implement prior program Prevent Recurrence Actions on forward models to address recognized issues and improve quality. Prepare Bill of Materials (BoM) with associated, cost, weight and assembly flow documents. Support 3D package studies to resolve incompatibilities within systems quantitatively (both 3DX and Catia V5). Prepare “Attachment C” decision matrices for execution option assessment to determine optimal forward direction. Prepare and present technical studies to peers and management. BS or higher degree, or foreign equivalent degree, in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or related physical sciences field of study. 3+ years of prior experience in automotive exterior trim/ornamentation engineering design and release engineering, with 2 years in the area of program assumption and support development, including target setting and system compatibility coordination. MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related physical science field of study. Broad exposure to various vehicle types and material types (Body-On-Frame Truck, Unibody SUV, steel, aluminum, resin variants, etc.). Ability to work in a fluid environment when overall vehicle targets, size, appearance, and manufacturing location are not always known and often change. Moderate experience in 3DX and Catia V5. Extensive experience in technology development; solid history of patent development and implementation. 8D and 5Why corrective action and problem-solving skills. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Microsoft Office experience, with effective oral and written communication skills.
