QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:



    • NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent

    • Experience in a Heavy Plant Engineer role with demonstrable diagnostic and repair experience
    • Good technical knowledge of current heavy plant mechanical systems, machine ranges and parts
    • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
    • Passionate about delivering exceptional levels of customer service
    • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems efficiently.
    • Able to build good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
    • Able to produce and understand technical reports.
    • Ability to work at pace and using own initiative.
    • Strong IT skills with the ability to use all MS packages and systems

    DESIRABLE SKILLS:



      • Experience working in a technical support or project coordination.

      UPTIME ENGINEER - ROLE OVERVIEW

      SMT GB is looking for experienced Engineers who are ready to advance their career in a role that moves away from the tools and into a new challenge.. Working as a desk based Uptime Engineer , you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the operational efficiency of equipment. You will work closely with customers to ensure their machinery is performing at optimal levels, minimizing downtime, and maximizing productivity.
      This is a depot based role and can be based from either our Newcastle.

      KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Develop maintenance strategies based on contract fleet trends to improve reliability and performance.
      • Ensure systems are updated with accurate machine population data, ensuring all regional machines report correctly.
      • Use inspection reports, oil analysis, and internal systems to identify and address machine issues.
      • Oversee and support parts and service quotes to increase incremental work on contract machines.
      • Identify parts, labour, and tooling needs for warranty cases to reduce engineer travel and minimise unrecoverable costs.
      • Generate sales leads for high-value work and actively promote parts, remanufactured products, and service solutions.
      • Gather market intelligence, monitor competitor activity, and report on lost sales to improve performance.
      • Collaborate with the internal teams on contract strategies and cost management throughout the machine’s lifecycle.
      • Manage technical support escalations, assist with complex customer communications, and oversee rework programs efficiently.
      • Ensure product updates and bulletins are actioned as part of relevant repairs and undertake additional duties as required.
