QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • University degree in Architecture, Urban Design, or Landscape Architecture; professional registration is a plus
  • 5+ years of experience in placemaking, urban design or related fields, with proven experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Expertise or experience in other unrelated areas that can contribute to our projects is a plus – e.g., behavioral science, ecology, anthropology, graphic design, gaming, and videography
  • Demonstrated success working with public and private sector clients, ideally in the Lower Mainland
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp and/or 3D modeling skills for developing complex urban design concepts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Suite InDesign
  • High-quality, thoughtful design and visual conveyance capabilities – the ability to convey ideas graphically in hand-drawn sketches (on paper or on a tablet) is a plus
  • Capacity to uphold design excellence in challenging project time frames and deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of assisting in the preparation of reports and developing design narratives
  • Capacity to work on and prioritize between many projects at once and thrive in a fast-paced environment with a keen eye for detail/precision

    The salary range for this position is 80,000 to $100,000 The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.

Responsibilities

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

As one of our Urban Designers, you will collaborate with our team of urban design, landscape architecture, and planning professionals on local and international projects of various scales. You will work with senior leadership to actively shape our Placemaking practice and work with other team members in Vancouver and beyond in the design and implementation of a diverse range of projects ranging from large-scale master plans, smart cities, urban design, TOD, transit planning, streetscape design, parks, residential development, resorts amongst others for public and private-sector clients. Outside of our immediate colleagues, we work very closely with architects, transportation planners, and engineers.
As part of the Placemaking team, you will be immersed in a fast-paced dynamic environment creating contemporary, inclusive, responsive, sustainable public and private high-quality spaces. You will be involved in all phases of the project from concept to consultation, master planning, schematic design, detailed design, and communication.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the Placemaking team in the definition of a project’s vision and direction
  • Conduct self-paced background research (case studies, best practices, urban trends, spatial and data analysis, etc.)
  • Draft conceptual urban design, placemaking, and open space schemes, approaches, and tactics
  • Develop open space plans, development master plans, circulation plans, etc. and accompanying diagrams for a variety of projects ranging in complexity, scope, and context
  • Develop key open space, building, or mobility-related detail elements that define and give meaning to a project
  • Visually convey the user experience, look, and feel of a project and its key differentiators
  • Produce creative, engaging, and delightful stories to communicate the intent of the project and its unique features
  • Produce outlines, layouts, and content for project deliverables (presentations, reports, etc.)
  • Participate in project-related meetings, site visits and events, leading or facilitating design-related conversations
  • Work with senior leadership and participate in responding and developing the creative content for RFP responses, and supporting relevant marketing and business development initiatives
