JOIN OUR TEAM – HCA INSTRUCTOR (THEORY & CLINICAL) AT WESTMINSTER COLLEGE, SURREY, BC

Established in 2007, Westminster College in Surrey, British Columbia, is fully accredited and recognized by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) under the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills. As a student-centered institution, our mission is to deliver career-focused programs with strong employment outcomes. We’ve recently expanded into the Health Sciences field to meet growing industry demand.
We are currently seeking a dedicated Health Care Assistant (HCA) Program Instructor to deliver both theory and clinical training. This role is essential in guiding students toward academic success and practical readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction in alignment with course competencies and program goals.
  • Assess and evaluate student performance promptly and effectively.
  • Utilize industry connections to enrich student learning and support employment pathways.
  • Supervise students during their Multi-Level/Complex Care Practicum, providing instruction in clinical skills and evaluating their performance in real-world settings.

Required Qualifications (Theory, Lab, and Practice Education):

  • Active, unrestricted registration as an LPN, RN, or RPN with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Proven ability to teach adult learners (e.g., completion of the Provincial Instructor Diploma, equivalent education, or relevant teaching experience with positive references and evaluations).
  • A minimum of 2 years of full-time nursing experience in Canada (at least 1,400 hours per year), with strong knowledge of:
  • The Canadian healthcare system
  • Roles and responsibilities within care teams
  • Current policies and procedures in residential and community care settings
  • Completion of Indigenous cultural safety training (e.g., San’yas Anti-Racism Indigenous Cultural Safety Training or equivalent).
  • Completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC course on LearningHub, ensuring a clear understanding of the HCA role in British Columbia.

Note: Faculty with relevant credentials in Health or Human Services may be considered for teaching Interpersonal Communications.Preferred Nursing Experience:

  • Experience working with older adults with complex care needs.
  • Background or orientation in home support and multi-level/complex care environments.
