The N921 Command Priorities Department, part of the National and Defense Intelligence Division, helps the Combatant Command Intelligence Directorates (J2) mitigate critical gaps and shortfalls, identify relevant emerging technologies, and create advanced solutions to address mission challenges.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A strong understanding of intelligence support to the warfighter, the organizations of the Intelligence community, and their responsibilities in support of the full intelligence
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with ability to obtain/maintain Polygraph
  • Requires minimum of 8 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree; 6 years of experience with a master’s degree; 3 years of experience with a Ph.D.; or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand sponsor challenges and needs and to develop tangible solutions and recommendations.
  • This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in systems engineering (or related science, technology, engineering, or math field)
  • Strong knowledge of intelligence processes and systems in use or relied upon by a Combatant Command J2
  • Experience with systems, tools, datasets, and/or processes involved in Command intelligence production
  • A clear understanding of the USAFRICOM mission and related intelligence activities
  • Demonstrated proficiency and strength in verbal, written, presentation, and communications skills
  • Prior experience supporting the requirements of CCMD or Component Intelligence Operations
  • Experience leading tasks that utilize MITRE’s reach back support.
Responsibilities

In this role, you will serve as a lead systems engineer, working to resolve the most difficult mission challenges faced by the USAFRICOM J2’s military and civilian staff. As a lead systems engineer you will serve as a member of a team of MITRE professionals focused on improving the intelligence production cycle of the USAFRICOM J2, as it serves the greater USAFRICOM, and be required to:

  • Sustain our strong engagement with J2 leadership, analysts, and staff officers to ensure MITRE understands and remains focused on supporting the intelligence challenges of the Command
  • Deliver impactful solutions to specific tasks as defined by USAFRICOM J2 leadership, our onsite project lead, and N921 department Leadership
  • Facilitate sponsor interactions that inform strategic direction and drive sponsor thinking and strategy in terms of ‘modernizing’ intelligence tools and activities to support the Combatant Commander
  • Maintain a strong understanding of technical development activities at the National Agencies, Services, Combatant Commands (CCMDs), and Components to facilitate applying externally developed solutions to USAFRICOM specific challenges
  • Support the development of sponsor strategy as they seek to resolve specific technical challenges to the timely delivery of intelligence to the warfighter, to include Digital-ISR, Non-Traditional Data, and a Common Intelligence Picture.
  • Maintain effective and responsive communications with your project leader, group leader and N921 leadership
  • Experience directly supporting and operating independently for a sponsor, including having and maintaining a relevant and robust professional network
  • Serve as the USAFRICOM J2 lead on specific tasks as assigned by your project leader
