Description
The Utilities Supervisor is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all utility systems at one or more Carnival Corporation–owned and operated global destinations. This role oversees Utility Technicians and ensures the continuous performance of all utility systems - including but not limited to - power generation systems, reverse osmosis (RO) water production and distribution, wastewater treatment systems, fuel bunkering operations, and propane infrastructure. This role requires technical expertise along with strong leadership and organizational skills. This position is accountable for system integrity, safety, and operational excellence across all utility functions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Team Supervision & Leadership: Supervise Utility Technicians, including scheduling, task assignment, coaching, and skills development. Build team competency across mechanical, electrical, water treatment, wastewater, fuel, and propane systems. Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement within the utilities team. Collaborate with Island Operations and Engineering leadership to support destination readiness and operational coordination. Utility System Oversight: Oversee daily operation of all destination utility systems to ensure reliable, efficient, and safe performance. Ensure all systems run efficiently and reliably while meeting operational and capacity demands. Ensure timely resolution of issues impacting guest operations. Provide technical direction during system disruptions, abnormal equipment behavior, and emergency responses. Maintenance Support Leadership: Review system performance data and implement operational adjustments to optimize cost and operational efficiency and reduce down-time. Supervise inspections, repairs, calibrations, and component replacements, ensuring quality and compliance. Support management with the planning and execution of preventive and corrective maintenance programs in alignment with OEM recommendations, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. Identify improvement opportunities and implement corrective actions to maintain operational consistency and reliability. Support major system overhauls, mechanical shutdowns, and infrastructure improvement projects. Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all environmental, potable water, wastewater, and fuel handling regulations in accordance with applicable local and international standards. Oversee sampling, testing, and documentation processes for potable water and treated wastewater, ensuring required reporting is completed accurately. Support the development, implementation, and adherence to SOPs related to safe utility operations. Participate in investigations of utility-related incidents and environmental concerns, ensuring corrective actions are implemented. Administration & Reporting: Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to minimize service disruptions and support smooth island operations. Ensure the Utilities team maintains accurate operational logs, maintenance documentation, compliance records, and system performance data. Ensure accurate and up-to-date maintenance records, compliance reports, and system documentation are maintained. Provide daily/weekly operational updates, including system status, risks, and planned maintenance activities, to the Assistant Technical Manager and Island Operations leadership. Assist with inventory management, spare parts planning, vendor coordination, and budget inputs for utility operations. Perform other related duties as requested to ensure destination operational continuity. SKILLS SPECIFICS: Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills and diagnostic equipment for utility maintenance Proficient Microsoft Office products; familiarity with other role-related technologies and applications Excellent people, organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, blueprints, and manuals Ability to manage deadlines, and administrative tasks simultaneously Deep understanding of utility systems including power generation, water treatment, wastewater processing, fuel handling, and propane systems. Familiarity with environmental regulations, water quality standards, and mechanical/electrical system operations. Knowledge of safety protocols (LOTO, confined space, hazardous materials, bunkering operations). Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to multitask effectively. Strong planning and coordination skills, especially in handling multiple priorities under tight deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data entry and reporting tools. Detail orientated with a proactive approach to problem solving. Experience with diesel generator synchronizing, ATS systems, and load‑shedding circuits. Familiarity with RO high-pressure pump skids, membrane replacement cycles, and chlorine monitoring. Understanding of package wastewater plants (e.g., SBR, MBR, or conventional systems). Experience with fuel transfer systems, spill containment, and pressure regulation for propane storage. EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Utility Management, or a related field preferred or equivalent experience is required; additional education in Hospitality or a related field is a plus. Technical certifications in electrical, mechanical, or utility-related disciplines (e.g., Generator Maintenance, RO, Electrical Systems) preferred. 3 - 5 years of experience working with large-scale utility systems or in industrial environments; familiarity with energy management systems and software • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the safety protocols, concepts, processes, trends and terminology related to utility meter reading, electrical systems, fuel systems, and generator operation LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient in English (spoken and written) to understand and interpret procedures, give and receive instructions, and effectively communicate with guests, managers, and co-workers PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically fit to lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more) Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing to access equipment Ability to work in confined spaces or awkward positions when servicing generators or meters Ability to work indoors and outdoors, enduring prolonged periods of standing and walking in varying environmental conditions All island employees must be physically capable of participating in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills, with full range of motion in arms and legs, and full visual, verbal, and hearing abilities to give and receive instructions during emergencies. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: The role involves working in a fast-paced, dynamic cruise port environment where passenger safety, timely operations, and excellent customer service are a priority. Work will require travel throughout the port facilities for operational oversight.
