SUMMARY

The Utility Billing Clerk is responsible for processing utility payments, maintaining customer accounts, and providing exceptional service regarding utility billing inquiries. This position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Below are the preferred methods for acquiring the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. The city reserves the right to allow substitutions if a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Five (5) to six (6) months of previous experience in utility billing, customer service, or accounting preferred
  • Must be able to use a 10-key calculator, multi-line phone system, and personal computer.
  • Previous experience in utility billing, customer service, or accounting preferred.
  • Experience in municipal or government utility operations is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle customer inquiries with professionalism and patience.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with utility billing software or accounting systems preferred.
