The Utility Engagement Program Manager will be responsible for power due diligence across the North American QTS portfolio. This role will ensure utility capacity is thoroughly evaluated in all new and existing regions for new sites to support data centers and initiate and guide power studies for prospective sites.
This role will interface and collaborate with many critical stakeholders, including but not limited to energy leaders responsible for utility contracts and negotiations; pre-development leads evaluating new properties; utility delivery developing new substations; operations leaders managing load growth projections; and development team project leaders planning and building new data centers.

RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)

  • Lead power due diligence for prospective sites across the footprint
  • Initiate and lead power studies for new sites
  • Estimate power schedules and budgets for prospective sites
  • Coordinate closely with the utility technical services team on required technical evaluations
  • Support the Energy Team as required in their leadership and pursuit of energy procurement, PPAs, and sustainability goals
  • Collaborate with Pre-Development, Utility Delivery, Energy, Development, Legal, and Sales to evaluate power opportunities in line with customer demands
  • Management of partners and consultants related to power due diligence
  • Track and report on power diligence status for all North American sites
  • Prepare executive updates and project update presentations for senior leadership

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, energy management, or equivalent professional experience
  • Four or more years of utility and energy projects, along with utility interconnection processes.
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of utility partners, including investor-owned / COOP / municipal utilities, and ISOs/RTOs
  • Able to travel up to 50% of the time or as needed to support relationship building and diligence
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with executives and collaborating effectively across all levels of the organization
  • U.S. Citizenship required for this position due to federal contracts

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six plus years evaluating power opportunities and securing access to large-scale power
  • Experience leading due diligence on prospective large-scale power opportunities
  • Experience managing large portfolio of work

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to independently manage deadlines and support staff
  • Ability to influence cross-discipline teams
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations at a high growth company
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and deliver high quality work in tight timeframes

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five or more years of medium/high voltage construction management
  • Five or more years or more years experience running multiple projects at the same time or related professional experience
  • Knowledge of substation industry partners and transformer manufacturers
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Be able to travel up to 50% of the time or as needed to support projects
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with executives and collaborating effectively across all levels of the organization

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ten plus years of electrical substation design or construction
  • Experience as licensed electrician engineer with focus on MV / HV work
  • Technical expertise in High and Medium Voltage Electrical Design
  • Experience managing large portfolio of work
