Summary We seek a dedicated individual to work as part of a team to coordinate the daily operations of an Energy-from-Waste facility. Utility Operators must maintain their work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner and comply with all safety, environmental and operational policies and procedures. Utility operators perform various cleaning and operational tasks within the power plant, as well as provide support as needed with other departments. This is a full-time, non-union, non-exempt position. The Utility Operator reports to the Chief Engineer. This position is located at Kent County WTE in Grand Rapids, MI. Responsibilities Operate mobile equipment, including loader, forklift, aerial lift. Enforce safety procedures and environmental policies on the tipping floor. Perform safety and environmental inspections/audits. Maintain documentation. Preventative maintenance. Cleaning. Painting. Grounds keeping. Assist with boiler outages, plant operations, and maintenance activities. Must be able to work bi-monthly rotating shifts and overtime as needed including nights, weekends, and holidays with minimum notice. Basic Qualifications Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Good mechanical aptitude. Preferred Qualifications Related military/technical training and/or previous power or industrial experience is a plus. Physical Requirements Must submit to a company provided physical and drug test as part of pre-employment screening process. Must possess a valid driver license in good standing in order to operate a company vehicle. Must have and maintain a driving record meeting the standards of the company. Full face respirator usage is required due to exposure to ash in working environment. Work in close quarters and confined spaces. Climb ladders and structures and ability to tolerate heights up to and including 100 feet. Must be able to work in a man lift and open grating at this height. Ability to tolerate high temperatures. Ability to lift up to and including 50 pounds also required. Ability to work outside in cold temperatures.
