QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in an industrial setting
  • Candidates with experience in shift and/or on call work are preferred
  • Knowledge of safe equipment operation and procedures, maintenance and cleaning standards

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Forklift certification, an asset
  • Jib Crane or Overhead certification is an asset
Responsibilities

ROLE

The Utility Specialist position within the Utility Operations department is labour intensive and supports manufacturing operations within the facility to produce premium threading connections on pipe accessories and full-length pipe as per customer specifications and needs within the oil and gas industry.
Please note: Tenaris requires employees to pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and fit test for this position as it is a safety sensitive position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Utility Specialist - Phosphate position encompasses Manganese and Zinc functions and Buckon and Bead Blast functions
  • Typically this specialty is trained after the job incumbent is proficient in the Swage Specialty.
  • Beginning at the most basic utility area and moving to more complex utility areas, operators perform varied functions within the premium threading production line, including but not limited to:
  • Manganese or Zinc Phosphate – a manufacturing process where threading is dipped into a chemical bath to coat the steel with the aim of preventing thread galling during connection make-up
  • Buckon – manufacturing process to add accessory or coupling onto pipe body end using equipment

Bead Blast – manufacturing process to refine the pipe by blowing high pressure beads onto the steel

  • Cross-training between utility specialties is important to flexible operations.
  • Perform material handing activities such as loading, unloading, and moving products and materials by hand or using material handling equipment such as conveyor belt, overhead crane or jib crane
  • Conduct and accurately complete pre-safety checklists
  • Perform equipment setup and machine changeover in an efficient and safe manner
  • Provide training and supervision of new personnel
  • Using power and manual tools, complete tasks efficiently and to quality standards
  • Ensure product quality complying with defined standards and reporting deviations
  • Carry out duties in an effective manner meeting productivity and efficiency standards
  • Ensure proper use of the company assets, detecting, reporting and troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment
  • Attend and participate in training activities to maintain and increase company knowledge
  • Proactively suggest improvements and participate in continuous improvement activities
  • Actively participate in company safety procedures and programs: correct unsafe work practices or situations; follow reporting protocols for violations; participate in the Hazard Identification process
  • Perform other duties as required, including, but not limited to warehouse maintenance, housekeeping and administrative duties
  • Adhering to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances and attend and participate in department safety meetings
  • Opportunities for advancement to CNC Operator / Threading Inspector are possible from the Utility Specialist Position, once proficient in multiple areas of the utility specialties.
