Description Position Summary The Utility position will perform physical labor and equipment operation to maintain and ensure a neat, orderly, and safe work site and operation. This position will spend a significant amount of time outdoors in hot, cold, and some potentially hazardous work environments and must be aware of rules involved in equipment operation, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Establishes a traffic flow and rotation for commercial, residential, and private haulers in the disposal of solid waste materials at the landfill, compost center, and other designated areas. Cleans up debris and litter by means of physical labor, gives related training and work instruction to light utility and temporary employees, and operates specialized equipment used in litter control. Uses basic shop tools such as grinders, drill press, compressor, impact wrench, floor jacks, and related tools in the maintenance of the worksite and equipment. Lubricates, maintains, and makes minor mechanical repairs of related equipment, repairing and switching tires, and basic carpentry tools to maintain, repair, or build additions and fixtures. Operates farm tractor, riding mower, man lift, water truck, street sweeper, roll off truck, dump truck, skid loader, common implements such as bat wing mower, soil disk, harrow, seeder, post hole drill, snowplow, sander, and related equipment to maintain the site. Operates forklift to load, move, and unload objects. Operates related equipment up to 75 HP. Maintains and repairs buildings, grounds, and premises of the physical facility to ensure the workplace is tidy, clean, and safe. Performs heavy physical labor in lifting and carrying heavy objects, digging, shoveling, pushing, pulling, prying, dragging, loading, and unloading, under adverse working conditions. Provides courteous external and internal customer service according to MWA Customer Service standards. Guided by the EMS processes and procedures, we focus on six main areas aimed at increasing diversion and/or protecting the environment.
