QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 10 education plus a minimum of one year experience in the construction industry.
  • Must be physically capable of performing all the duties of the position and work under adverse weather conditions,

temperatures, and emergency conditions.

  • Familiar with and adhere to all safety rules and other approved practices and procedures.
  • Capable of working at heights and unusual work environments.
  • Familiar with and adhere to Federal and Provincial Regulations and practices related to WHMIS and Transportation of

Dangerous Goods.

  • Familiar with Corporation policies and the union contract.
  • Possess an approved set of personal hand tools.
  • May be required to become certified to operate certain classes of equipment.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and be capable of communicating, both orally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees.
  • Willing and able to work anywhere in Manitoba for extended periods of time.
Responsibilities
  • Act as a Helper to Tradesperson in the performance of their duties.
  • Assist with carpentry work, concrete forming, placing reinforcing steel/anchor bolts and concrete, concrete finishing, and wood

frame and metal building erection.

  • Install: fencing, grounding, conduits, oil containment systems, drainage systems as per drawings and specifications.
  • Operate power tools and general construction equipment including skid steers, mini excavators, dump body.
  • Work in active substations and in the presence of foundations, structures, apparatus, overhead structures, and underground

utilities.

  • Work inside/outside 12 months of the year 95% of the time in all weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Organization and care of crew tools and equipment.
  • Interact with various internal/external work groups for planning, coordination, and execution of the work
  • Ensure the duties performed comply with Corporate and regulatory environmental requirements.
  • Report any incidents or situations that may be harmful to the environment or in violation of regulatory requirements to line

supervisor.

  • Adhere to and practice Manitoba Hydro Corporate Safety & Occupational Health Rules and regulations regarding WHMIS,

TDG, Traffic control, Worker Protection Code, Safe Work

  • Procedures and Life Saving Rules as they apply to construction activity.
