As a leader in the retail market, we're optimistic about our future and yours. We're changing at a rapid rate, giving you challenging work that you'll be proud of.

Join the team

We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Designer to join our team and help shape digital products and experiences used by millions of customers. You'll work on meaningful customer and business problems, using design thinking, research, data and experimentation to create experiences that are useful, intuitive and impactful.

Working closely with Product, Engineering and other stakeholders across Kmart Group, you'll contribute throughout the product lifecycle — from understanding and framing problems through to designing, shipping, measuring and continuously improving experiences. We're looking for someone who is curious, proactive and eager to solve problems. You'll be comfortable navigating ambiguity and change, keen to learn and grow, and motivated by turning complex challenges into simple, effective experiences.

What you'll be doing

As a Product Designer working for Kmart, you will:

  • Support product strategy by translating customer needs, business objectives and insights into thoughtful design solutions
  • Take ownership of design within your product area, working with your product team from discovery and concept development through delivery, measurement and iteration
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering, as well as Analytics, Trade, Marketing, SEO and other stakeholders, to identify opportunities and deliver customer and business outcomes
  • Balance customer needs, business goals and technical feasibility to create practical and scalable design solutions
  • Use customer research, behavioural data, market insights and experimentation to inform design decisions, evaluate outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Plan and conduct appropriate customer research and usability testing, and translate insights into actionable product decisions
  • Apply strong UX, UI and interaction design principles, using user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity designs and interactive prototypes to explore, communicate and validate solutions
  • Contribute to and apply the Kmart Group design system, helping create consistent, accessible and scalable digital experiences
  • Apply accessibility and inclusive design principles to create experiences that work for the diverse communities we serve
  • Keep up to date with industry best practices, emerging trends and new approaches to design, bringing relevant ideas and learnings into the team
  • Participate in design critique and peer review, giving and receiving constructive feedback to continuously improve the quality of our work
  • Share insights, learnings and knowledge with others, contributing to the growth and continuous improvement of Kmart Group's product design practice

To be successful in this role you'll have:

  • Demonstrated experience designing and shipping digital products and experiences that solve real customer problems
  • A portfolio that demonstrates your design process, problem-solving approach and contribution to shipped product outcomes
  • An appreciation of the end-to-end product development process, from discovery and problem framing through to detailed UX, UI and interaction design
  • Strong product thinking and an ability to balance customer needs, business outcomes and technical constraints
  • Experience creating user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity designs and interactive prototypes using modern design tools such as Figma
  • An understanding of component-based design systems and how they enable consistent experiences at scale
  • A solid understanding of user-centred design principles and experience conducting or applying customer research
  • The ability to clearly communicate design rationale and make design problems understandable to people from different disciplines and levels of the organisation
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships with Product, Engineering and other business stakeholders
  • A proactive and problem-solving mindset, with the confidence to identify opportunities, ask questions and take action to move work forward
  • Adaptability and comfort with ambiguity, with the ability to adjust your approach as priorities, customer needs and business challenges evolve in a fast-paced environment
  • Curiosity and a growth mindset, with a genuine eagerness to learn, seek feedback, develop your craft and continuously improve
  • The ability to work independently within your area of responsibility while knowing when to seek guidance, collaborate and bring others along
  • A willingness to contribute to the broader design team and share knowledge with others

Benefits we'll offer you:

  • Flexible hybrid working options through our Flex Where, Flex When, Flex Well policy.

Responsibilities

About the job

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of UX/UI based in Australia.

This is a senior design leadership role with end-to-end ownership of the user experience across a complex B2B SaaS platform. You will lead an established design team while remaining deeply involved in hands-on product design and the highest-impact initiatives. The role spans multiple user groups, requiring intuitive, efficient experiences that address different goals and workflows. You will shape the design function, establish quality standards, and build scalable processes alongside Product and Engineering. From research and early concepts through high-fidelity designs, systems, and engineering handoff, you will influence the full product lifecycle. This is an environment that values speed, autonomy, strong design craft, and measurable impact on product adoption and engagement.

Accountabilities

  • Lead, manage, and mentor the existing design team, establishing high standards for design quality, process, collaboration, and delivery.
  • Run regular design critiques and provide clear, actionable feedback that strengthens individual capabilities and creates a consistent quality bar across the team.
  • Own and continuously improve the design process, including project scoping, reviews, collaboration, handoff, and measurement.
  • Define future design-team structures, roles, and hiring needs, including portfolio evaluation and recruitment as the organization scales.
  • Act as a key connection point between Design, Product, and Engineering, representing user needs and ensuring design decisions are understood and incorporated into product planning.
  • Remain hands-on as an individual contributor, personally leading the most complex and highest-leverage design initiatives.
  • Own the UX/UI vision across the full product, from early concepts and wireframes through high-fidelity designs and engineering-ready specifications.
  • Design experiences for multiple user groups with distinct needs, mental models, and goals, ensuring each workflow remains intuitive, efficient, and engaging.
  • Build and maintain a scalable Figma-based design system, including design tokens, components, variables, and reusable patterns.
  • Own the design-to-engineering handoff process, providing sufficiently detailed specifications to ensure accurate implementation.
  • Lead user research and usability testing to understand real user behavior and translate insights into meaningful product improvements.
  • Identify friction points proactively and design solutions that improve usability, adoption, engagement, and task completion.
  • Track and communicate the business impact of design, using product and user metrics to prioritize initiatives and demonstrate the value of UX/UI.
  • Balance team leadership and individual design execution as equally important parts of the role.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional UX/UI or product design experience, ideally within B2B SaaS environments.
  • At least 2 years of experience leading or managing a design team in a fast-paced, small-team, or high-growth environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously lead designers and personally deliver high-quality product design work.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing end-to-end product design, with experience in complex workflows, enterprise tools, multi-sided platforms, or similarly sophisticated products preferred.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including design systems, design tokens, component libraries, variables, prototyping, and engineering handoff.
  • Experience designing for multiple user types with different goals, workflows, and mental models.
  • Proven ability to lead user research, synthesize findings, and translate research insights into practical design decisions.
  • Comfortable defining, monitoring, and using design and product metrics such as adoption, engagement, and task completion to guide priorities.
  • Strong interaction and visual design skills, combined with a strategic approach to product experience.
  • Collaborative and confident communicator who can advocate for a clear design perspective while incorporating relevant input from others.
  • Comfortable operating in an environment where priorities shift quickly and decisions sometimes need to be made with incomplete information.
  • Highly autonomous, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership from problem definition through delivery.
  • Exceptional written and spoken English.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunity to own the UX/UI function within a profitable, rapidly growing SaaS environment.
  • Leadership responsibility combined with substantial hands-on product design work.
  • Direct influence over product, design, and engineering decisions.
  • Opportunity to build and evolve a scalable design system while the product continues to expand.
  • Exposure to complex, multi-sided product experiences rather than purely marketing or landing-page design.
  • Close collaboration with founders and senior product and engineering leadership.
  • High degree of ownership and autonomy within a small, high-impact team.
  • Fast-moving environment that values speed, design craft, accountability, and execution.
  • Opportunity to shape the future of AI-enabled partnership technology.
  • Professional growth opportunities as the design organization and product scale.
