Develop new luminaires and improve existing product ranges.

Design custom project solutions, including adaptations of standard products and fully bespoke designs.

Work with sales teams, clients and project teams to understand design briefs, installation requirements and technical constraints.

Produce accurate 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, assemblies and bills of materials, ideally using Autodesk Inventor.

Select suitable materials, manufacturing processes, LED modules, optics, drivers and control components.

Build and evaluate prototypes, resolving mechanical, thermal and assembly issues.

Work with suppliers to develop components, review samples and establish manufacturing tolerances.

Design products for efficient manufacture, straightforward installation, maintenance and repair.

Design standard and bespoke luminaires in accordance with BS EN IEC 60598-1

Apply safety requirements covering insulation, earthing where required, wiring, mechanical construction, temperature limits, resistance to heat and fire, ingress protection and product marking.

Assess how bespoke modifications affect product safety and identify additional testing required before release to manufacture.

Coordinate testing with colleagues and external laboratories, resolve compliance issues and maintain supporting technical documentation.

Prepare product specifications, installation instructions, technical records and project-specific drawings.

Support production with design queries, assembly methods and component issues.

Manage design revisions and keep drawings, bills of materials and product information accurate.

Work with sales, purchasing and production to deliver commercially viable products and custom solutions.
