Description:

WHAT IS THE JOB?

  1. Designing and carrying out user research and testing using a wide range of techniques, ensuring we build digital products that fit the needs of our users.
  2. Producing UX reports/findings based on observation and analysis, with recommendations for improvements to layout and functionality to enhance user experience and help users to achieve their goals.
  3. Producing sketches, wireframes, prototypes and user journeys to inform the design of our digital products, based on user needs and business requirements.
  4. Performing web accessibility audits in line with WCAG standards and making recommendations to ensure that our digital output is accessible and usable to all.
  5. Supporting the Brand & Content team, Digital Delivery team and external agencies to ensure tasks and responsibilities allocated within projects are delivered accurately, meet user requirements, accessibility requirements and ensure the ongoing optimisation of our digital platforms.
  6. Working with the Digital Analytics team to review performance – analysing user behaviour and user journeys to make informed recommendations to improve the customer experience of our digital products.
  7. Support the Senior UX Manager in wider stakeholder projects, which may include both B2C and B2B digital products and campaigns, to ensure user journeys and landing pages are fully optimised.
  8. Promoting UX, accessibility and user focussed approach to design across VisitScotland teams and partners, both internally and externally.
  9. You will not be required to carry out UI Design tasks as we have a separate Design team.

    Qualifications

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior UX Manager, the post-holder will contribute to the development of the digital roadmap for VisitScotland’s consumer websites. The department plays a key role in driving growth in the visitor economy through a programme of customer acquisition, retention and engagement, with a focus on research and optimisation in order to connect more visitors with tourism business across Scotland.
The post-holder will use a broad range of user research techniques, will be experienced in using web analytics and UX analysis tools, and working across departments in agile project teams will be able to produce user testing scripts, analysis of research and testing, recommendations based on research analysis, specifications, wire frames and user stories to help guide UI visual design to ensure optimal customer journeys. They will not be required to produce UI designs as we have a dedicated Design team who we work with.
They will have a strong set of technical and digital skills, full understanding of WCAG standards and inclusive design, plus awareness of current development practices, good stakeholder management skills and a strong basis in design thinking methodology.
The post-holder will act as the voice of the user in digital projects. Starting with user insight they will use a variety of techniques to inform design and development and continue UX assessments through to final testing and reporting of implemented changes.
