The Couch Program Support Volunteer assists in delivering a welcoming and inclusive space for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) community members. The role supports program activities, helps facilitate social connection, and provides practical assistance such as setting up sessions, serving meals, and maintaining a safe environment. Volunteers engage positively with participants, encourage community involvement, and refer individuals to staff for additional support when needed. This role contributes to building a strong, connected community while supporting access to essential services. Purpose of the Role The Couch Program Support Volunteer assists in creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) community members. The role supports the Program Coordinator in delivering activities, fostering social connections, and linking participants with appropriate services. Key Responsibilities Program Support Assist with setting up and packing down the Couch sessions Support delivery of community activities that promote socialisation and inclusion Help create a welcoming and respectful environment for all attendees Provide informal support and engagement with participants Community Engagement Build positive relationships with community members from diverse backgrounds Encourage participation in activities and group discussions Support cultural exchange and inclusive community events Practical Assistance Assist with preparation and serving of meals and refreshments Support distribution of emergency relief items (e.g., food parcels when required) Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the space Referral Support Direct participants to the Coordinator or staff for further support needs Provide general information about available services (as guided by staff) Volunteer Collaboration Work collaboratively with staff and other volunteers Attend briefings and follow guidance from the Program Coordinator Participate in training and induction as required Skills and Attributes Friendly, approachable, and respectful Interest in supporting CALD communities Good communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work in a team environment Reliable and punctual Cultural awareness and sensitivity Requirements Willingness to undergo a National Police Check Working with Vulnerable People Check (or willingness to obtain) Commitment to follow organisational policies, including Code of Conduct and WHS Benefits of Volunteering Gain experience in community services Develop communication and teamwork skills Contribute to a meaningful community program Build connections within diverse communities Opportunity to learn about support services and community programs Supervision and Support Volunteers will be supervised by the Couch Program Coordinator and supported by The Salvation Army team. Induction, training, and ongoing guidance will be provided.
