The Vacation Student - Mine Geology role offers an exceptional opportunity to play an active role in field programs to start learning the essentials of collecting geologic data. A summer with the Red Lake Mine Geology team will help set the basis for a geological career in mining.
Roster: 5/2/4/3 – 9.5 hour shifts or 5/2/4/3/8/6

About our Operation
Our Red Lake Operation is located in an area where you will experience the best in Northern lifestyle, in the heart of a lake-studded, boreal forest region in Sunset Country. Red Lake is known for its natural beauty, abundant wildlife, and incredible Canadian fishing in the many freshwater lakes in the area. The Red Lake district is located 180 kilometers north of Dryden about 100 kilometers from the Manitoba border in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. It spans 42,000 hectares and has produced over 29 million ounces of gold since 1949. Our Red Lake Operation includes the Red Lake and Campbell underground mining and processing complexes , and Cochenour , as well as the Bateman Project.
About the role
In this role you will have the opportunity to gain some exposure to a world class Archaean Orogenic mineral system at Evolution Mining’s Red Lake Operation in NW Ontario. You will form part of the Mine Geology team, whose job is to enhance the operation through ensuring confidence of ore extraction. You will contribute towards our success by assisting with underground mapping and core logging programmes. A summer with the Red Lake Mine Geology team will help set the basis for a geological career in mining.

Responsibilities

Track daily production blasts to ensure maximum ore production
Map and interpret geological information, ground conditions and other pertinent geological anomalies.
Collect chip samples where required for geological information and grade control.
Exposure to prepare geological interpretations through modelling.
Assist with preparation of diamond drill core for geologic logging and sampling.
Gain initial exposure to logging diamond drill core with an emphasis on lithology, structure, and alteration relating to gold mineralisation.
Take part in underground diamond drill rig inspections.
Deliver a short report for a geological project/question relating to your summer work.
Maintain databases and analyze data for production and reconciliation purposes.

About you
As a Vacation Student – Mine Geology, you will be enrolled in your 3rd or 4th year of a University program focused on Geology. It is also important that you have/ can demonstrate:
Some production experience in precious metal mining
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Some exposure to mining software (QGIS or Leapfrog) would be advantageous
Familiar with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants
Strong will to learn and develop.
Self-starter demonstrating motivation and initiative
The ability to deliver results according to agreed plans
Good writing and reporting skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
