Part time – 32 hours per week (4.5 days per week) – (Working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – flexible with remaining hours) - Permanent
We are building a more sustainable, efficient, and resident-focused Reading – and our Asset Management Team plays a vital role in that journey. We’re looking for a Valuation Surveyor with strong technical skills and a collaborative mindset to help shape the future of our corporate property portfolio. We manage a diverse property portfolio, maximizing the use and value of all property assets.

ABOUT YOU:

We’re looking for someone with experience of dealing with a broad spectrum of different property types, including commercial, residential and rural property valuations. A good understanding of current thinking/best practice in relation to Valuation and Estates issues and the ability to analyse and interpret complex written and financial information and make professional recommendations on the best use of property assets.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge and understanding of large and complex public service organisations
  • Awareness and understanding of local government operations and how Council services interface with key public service partners e.g. police, health
  • Excellent judgement and analysis with the ability to broker solutions to complex problems. Commercial awareness and approach, recognising the importance of value for money in all Council activity
  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills with the ability to present complex issues in a simple and easy to understand way for internal and external audiences

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Chartered surveyor or equivalent
  • Registered Valuer
  • Significant post qualification experience
  • Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Valuation Surveyor, you’ll deliver high-quality property valuations and estates management services across a varied portfolio including commercial, residential and operational property.
You’ll support disposals and acquisitions, lead landlord and tenant negotiations, and advise on development, viability, and regeneration schemes. It’s an opportunity to help maximise value from public assets while supporting key local priorities.
A pool car will be available when required to go out and complete site inspections around the Reading Borough.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting valuations for various purposes, including asset valuations, insurance valuations, and planning viability appraisals.
  • Negotiating terms and managing the disposal and acquisition of land/buildings.
  • Managing income-generating assets for investment purposes.
  • Undertaking Landlord & Tenant work, including lettings, reviews, and renewals.
  • Providing property advice and preparing reports for Councillors and Officers
