Description
YOUR IMPACT AT UMH Hi, Alex and Jeremy here from UMH! Seven years ago, we started a small system integration and boutique consulting company to help manufacturers digitize their production lines. We installed sensors on machines, built dashboards for production managers, and used AI to analyze product quality - all to improve efficiency, quality, and resource use. Pretty quickly, we hit the same wall every project seems to hit: lack of access to clean, structured, and contextualized data. Every factory had data - but it was fragmented, inconsistent, and locked inside proprietary systems. There was no open, scalable foundation to build on. So four years ago, we switched gears and founded United Manufacturing Hub, an open-source industrial data management platform that helps factories collect, structure, and share production data at scale. Today, companies like HiPP, MAHLE, and EDEKA use UMH to connect their shop floors, and we’re backed by a 1,000-people-strong community and international venture capital investors who share our belief that industrial data should be open. Our goal is simple: Build the data foundation every factory in the world can run on - to make manufacturing faster, smarter, and more sustainable. You will love this if you want to: Deploy and integrate real systems - connecting PLCs, sensors, and data pipelines that help factories run more efficiently and reliably. Consult customers on how to generate business value, by designing use cases, implementing and capturing tangible value with them Shape the product from the field, feeding back real-world learnings to make UMH more scalable, robust, and developer-friendly. Debug, optimize, and automate data flows across MQTT, Kafka (Redpanda), Docker, Benthos, and Grafana - and document patterns others can build on. Work closely with the Product Engineering team to prototype new features, test deployments, and continuously improve the UMH stack. → Our stack is here. YOUR PROFILE Hands-on experience with OT or IT systems - PLCs, sensors, message brokers, containerized applications, or industrial protocols. (Smart home environments count too!) The ability to communicate clearly with customers, build trust quickly, and act as a reliable technical advisor. You can translate messy customer problems into clean technical solutions - and you enjoy doing it in real factories, not just in slide decks. You’re comfortable being the technical face of a product - part engineer, part consultant, part teacher - who thrives in high-velocity, high-accountability environments. You have a strong bias for learning and self-reliance - you don’t need much structure, but you can build it when it’s missing. Fluency in German and English WHAT WE OFFER? Salary: €55–80k OTE (depending on experience) + equity through VSOP. Learning Curve: Expect steep growth. We give 360° feedback, full ownership, and a ton of responsibility - making this likely the fastest learning environment you’ve ever been in. You’ll quickly become a true Industry 4.0 expert. Benefits: The standard startup perks - a well-designed office in the heart of Cologne, free drinks & snacks, ergonomic desks and chairs, and access to Urban Sports Club / EGYM Wellpass. If you want to help build the data backbone of modern manufacturing - and actually see your code make machines run better - let’s talk and apply through Personio by uploading your CV and include a link to something you’ve built or written that you’re proud of. About us United Manufacturing Hub is an equal-opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all qualified individuals regardless of ethnicity, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation, or age.
