Description Position summary The valve body rebuilder disassembles, cleans, inspects, and reassembles automatic transmission valve bodies to OEM or reman-spec tolerances. Working in a dedicated rebuild cell (clean room), this technician restores hydraulic control units to OEM or better function using replacement solenoids, separator plates, check balls, springs, and wear components. Core responsibilities Disassembly and cleaning Strip valve bodies per unit-specific procedures; use ultrasonic cleaners, solvent tanks, or spray cabinets to remove varnish, debris, and contamination. Inspection and measurement Measure bore wear, check valve stick, inspect separator plate for cracks or warpage; record findings and reject cores outside spec. Parts replacement Install new solenoids, O-rings, seals, check balls, springs, accumulator pistons, and filter screens per rebuild kit. Reassembly and torque Reassemble to torque specs using air/electric/hand tooling; follow printed build sheets or work instructions for each transmission family. Hydraulic testing Run completed units on a valve body test bench to verify shift quality, solenoid response, and line pressure; document results. Quality and documentation Complete quality checklists, log reject/rework data, and flag recurring failure patterns to the supervisor. Housekeeping and 5S Maintain a clean, organized workstation; follow shop safety protocols and OSHA standards. Required qualifications High school diploma or GED Ability to read torque specs, exploded-view diagrams, and build sheets Proficiency with hand tools, torque wrenches, and snap-ring pliers Attention to detail and comfort with repetitive precision work Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
