The apprentice varnisher will learn to prepare surfaces, mix and apply varnishes, and maintain equipment under the guidance of experienced professionals. Key duties include sanding, cleaning, and masking surfaces; mixing stains and varnishes to the correct color and consistency. Key responsibilities Preparation: Sanding, cleaning, and filling surfaces, and masking off areas not to be coated. Mixing: Mixing stains, paints, and varnishes to achieve the correct color and consistency based on formulas. Application: Assisting in applying base coats and top coats using brushes, rollers, or spray guns, and learning to operate spray machinery. Finishing: Learning to sand and seal a properly dried finish, and checking for quality and flaws like blisters or streaks. Equipment maintenance: Cleaning and maintaining tools, brushes, and spray equipment. Safety and cleanup: Following safety regulations, cleaning up the work area, and performing general workshop duties. Requirements Job can involve heavy lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions. Ability to perform repetitive motions, such as sanding and reaching, for extended periods. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment like respirators when required. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team. A proactive attitude and desire to learn new skills Previous painting/finish experience a plus
