Description
* To assist the surgeons in their clinical functions involving the care of all patients ranging in age from neo-natal through geriatric. * Responsible for patient care as outlined within collaborative practice agreement.  Develops and implements a collaborative practice agreement in the specific clinical area and performs a periodic review of the collaborative agreement * Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations and laboratory examination, prescribes and alters medication regimens, interprets findings and alters plan of care according to collaborative practice agreement and protocols in designated area * Perform minor surgical outpatient procedures, such as, but not limited to, wound management/debridement, incision and drainage, suturing or other procedures as credentialed by the Department of Surgery. * Participate in hospital rounds, prepare written orders on charts, and provide clinical direction of patients admitted to surgical service in collaboration with attending. * Participate on wound care service performing patient management assessment, development of treatment plans and implementation of therapies. * Assist in surgical clinics, as indicated * Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of surgical clinical pathways. * Provides clinical instruction and evaluation regarding patient assessment and treatment of various surgical patients and conditions Qualifications * Graduate of New York State registered Nurse Practitioner Program or equivalent OR is certified as a Nurse Practitioner by a national association via examination * Master's degree program designed to prepare a registered nurse to provide acute/primary health care services or the successful completion of an approved supplemental education program, i.e., post-Masters NP certificate. * General knowledge of blood work, IV insertion, arterial punctures, NG tubes, history and physical taking. * Basic and advanced patient assessment skills. * Critical care/surgical nursing experience preferred. * Wound care experience preferred. * Clinical teaching background required. * BLS, ACLS and PALS certified, instructor status preferred.
Responsibilities
