This role is responsible for the architecture, performance, and ongoing optimization of the enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environment supporting approximately 450 users. This is a hands-on technical role focused on designing, maintaining, and improving a high-performing Omnissa Horizon platform. The VDI Engineer will work across infrastructure layers—including virtualization, networking, identity, and storage—to ensure a secure, reliable, and efficient end-user experience. This role also provides mentorship to Desktop Administrators and supports broader endpoint strategy where it intersects with VDI. Required Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience * Minimum of 4 years of experience in VDI, virtualization, and end user computing infrastructure * Strong hands-on experience with Omnissa Horizon or other VDI technologies * Experience with VMware vSphere (ESXi and vCenter) Preferred Qualifications: * VMware Horizon / Omnissa Horizon certification preferred * VMware Certified Professional (VCP) preferred * Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate preferred * Experience with FSLogix profile containers * Experience with Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM) * CompTIA Network+ or equivalent networking certification advantageous Technical Skills: * Solid knowledge of Omnissa Horizon architecture, including: * Connection Servers * Unified Access Gateways (UAG) * Application delivery * Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM) * Strong understanding of VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter) in a VDI environment * Firm knowledge of TCP/IP networking, including DNS, DHCP, routing, and latency impacts on VDI * Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy * Experience with Windows desktop image management (golden images, provisioning) * Familiarity with display protocols (Blast Extreme, PCoIP) * Experience troubleshooting VDI performance issues (logon delays, CPU/memory contention, storage IOPS) * Scripting/automation skills (PowerShell) desirable Soft Skills: * Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills across multiple infrastructure layers * Ability to mentor and develop junior IT staff * Clear communication with technical teams, end users, and leadership * Ownership mindset with a focus on performance, stability, and user experience * Detail-oriented with strong documentation practices Benefits of Working with Us: Bank of Utah's comprehensive benefits package includes: * Great work-life balance, with a Monday-Friday schedule * Competitive pay and benefits, including medical, dental and vision plans * 401(k) plan and match up to 5 percent in our employee stock ownership program (eligibility requirements must be met) * 12 paid bank holidays + paid time off, including paid parental leave * Volunteer opportunities to make a difference in the communities where you work and live * Awards and recognition to celebrate you and your colleagues for living the bank's values Regular Duties and Responsibilities: * Own the architecture, design, and lifecycle management of a 450-user Omnissa Horizon VDI environment * Deploy, configure, and optimize Horizon components (Connection Servers, UAG, DEM) * Design and maintain golden images and desktop provisioning strategies * Troubleshoot complex VDI issues across: * Horizon platform * VMware vSphere (ESXi / vCenter) * Active Directory and Group Policy * Networking (DNS, DHCP, routing, latency) * Profile management (FSLogix, DEM) * Optimize user logon times, session performance, and overall user experience * Monitor and tune system performance (CPU, memory, storage IOPS, and latency) * Collaborate with infrastructure teams on compute, storage, and network design impacting VDI * Provide Tier 2/3 escalation support for VDI-related incidents * Mentor Desktop Administrators and support PC Technicians where VDI intersects with endpoint strategy * Document configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures * Support endpoint strategy and lifecycle management as it relates to the VDI and physical workstation environment
