Job Description
BCH Road Policing Unit is seeking a Part Time (Minimum 18hrs per week) Vehicle Recovery Liaison Officer (VRLO) who will work in a tight knit team in the Vehicle Recovery Unit (VRU).
The successful candidate will be part of a team that oversees the day to day administration of the Contract Vehicle Recovery Scheme to deliver a quality service for the public and provide the best value for the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire tri-Force Alliance
The VRU manage and process approximately 18,000 vehicle recoveries per year. You will work for the Vehicle Recovery Unit Manager to ensure staff with the Constabularies comply with Policy, and liaise with Vehicle Recovery Operators and other partner agencies. The role will also include the initial investigation of complaints from solicitors, insurance companies, members of the public and police officers working towards an efficient resolution. You will work as part of a team to facilitate the recovery and storage of vehicles to meet the requirements of the complex legislation and a variety of clients as well as assisting the Vehicle Recovery Unit Manager In making decisions to ensure the lawful disposal of vehicles at the appropriate time.
Due to the nature of the work, there will be occasions when reports and associate imagery will relate to serious and fatal road traffic collisions.

  • Resolve complaints
  • Managing and authorising payments
  • Responding to enquires
  • Processing of vehicles
  • Disposal of vehicles

  • Good IT skills – to be able to familiarise yourself with and navigate around multiple police systems
  • Manage and take ownership of your own workload – must have good oral and written ability

    External candidates will not necessarily have understanding or knowledge of the first three entry requirements however, they must demonstrate their willingness and ability to learn this whilst in their probationary period. Comprehensive training will be provided.
    We are based at Stevenage Police Station and Cambridgeshire HQ Huntingdon, so the successful candidate will have the choice, of place of work. Please note, training will be at Stevenage Police Station and will be for the entire probationary period, prior to you working at your desired station.
