Responsibilities

As a Ventilation Engineer at BHP Copper SA you will support the technical work on both a tactical and strategic for our ventilation systems and infrastructure of our underground mines.
With each of our sites offering a unique environment ultimately you will support a wide range of technical and operational stakeholders with a focus on the overall mine ventilation system, underground environment and it’s impacts on safety, production, cost and achievement of the mine plans and future growth at Copper SA.
We currently have opportunities at our three Copper SA sites – Carrapateena, Prominent Hill and Olympic Dam.
For all sites we offer 8 days on / 6 days off FIFO roster from Adelaide. Olympic Dam also offers the option to reside residentially in the township of Roxby Downs or DIDO from regional SA.

As a Ventilation Engineer at BHP Copper SA you will:

  • Ensure that all legislative, internal, and best practice standards are met with respect to ventilation planning and OH&S
  • Support the delivery and review of ventilation plans for development, production, and project activities; complying with legislative and internal standards
  • Consultation in monthly, stope & mine block, and 2YB/5YP planning processes with attention to safety, schedule, reliability and costs
  • Provide alternatives and challenge the status quo to improve understanding of ventilation systems, plans, and practices
  • Liaising between stakeholders to support a comprehensive integrated mine plan
  • Provide input to Ventilation modelling and major projects
  • Quarterly and monthly monitoring and reporting on health & performance of ventilation circuits
  • Conduct vent surveys, air balancing, air vent adjustments, and fan management.
  • Perform fault-finding and monitoring activities to maintain system efficiency.
  • Ensure proper airflow distribution across operational zones.
  • Build and maintain an accurate VentSim model of the mine’s ventilation system.
  • Identify and manage ventilation-related risks by recommending appropriate control measures.
  • Develop expertise in the effective use of the Ventilation on Demand (VoD) system
