Job Description

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be fit and able to work in physically demanding conditions (heat, confined spaces, heights).
  • Must be a British citizen or have held a British passport for at least 5 years.
  • Able to obtain Security Clearance (SC)
  • 5-year checkable work history, with all employment gaps over 2 weeks explained.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces, darkness, at heights, and wearing breathing apparatus.
  • Willing to work across various facilities on the Barrow site
  • No prior experience needed – full training provided
Responsibilities

AS A VESSEL FIRE & SAFETY OFFICER, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY OF PERSONNEL AND ASSETS, WHICH REQUIRES YOU TO ACCESS, WORK, AND EGRESS IN CONFINED SPACES. YOU WILL NEED TO MAINTAIN A HIGH LEVEL OF PERSONAL FITNESS TO CARRY OUT THE DUTIES OF THE ROLE AND BE PREPARED TO WORK IN DEMANDING ENVIRONMENTS INCLUDING:

  • Confined spaces
  • Working at heights
  • Low light/dark conditions
  • Hazardous and outdoor environments
  • Working within various facilities across the BAE Systems Barrow site

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • FIRE SAFETY & HOT WORK COMPLIANCE ✅Ensure all hot work is carried out in line with Hot Work Permit requirements.
  • FIRE SAFETY INSPECTIONSCheck for fire hazards such as gas locations, flammable substances, and storage issues.
  • AREA INSPECTIONSInspect all spaces, including behind bulkheads and adjacent compartments, prior to hot work.
  • Fire Safety Signage ️Ensure correct signage is displayed, visible, and adhered to.
  • FIRE-FIGHTING EQUIPMENT ️Be familiar with all hand-portable and external fire-fighting equipment and ensure serviceability.
  • Liaising with Trades ‍️Work closely with other trades, remain aware of flushing/testing systems, and halt unsafe operations.
  • OTHER DUTIES ‍Carry out any additional responsibilities directed by the Fire Manager/Supervisor.
