Due to the continued expansion of our marine survey operations, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and safety-focused Vessel Skipper to join our team, supporting hydrographic and geophysical survey projects across the UK.

As part of the Socotec Group, we provide multi-disciplinary surveying solutions to a diverse range of clients. Due to continued expansion, we are seeking a qualified Vessel Skipper to support our growing hydrographic and geophysical survey operations.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially endorsed vessel operator to play a vital role in supporting marine survey projects. You’ll be responsible for operating our fleet of modern survey vessels across inland, coastal, and nearshore environments throughout the UK, acting as Coxswain on a number of MCA Cat II & III commercially endorsed survey boats, including 8 22m catamarans and 7m RIBs. You’ll work closely with our hydrographic team and be a key part of delivering accurate and safe survey operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Skipper commercial survey vessels in support of hydrographic and geophysical surveys
  • Operate the vessel in a professional, safe, efficient & cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure vessel safety, compliance, and operational readiness
  • Undertake voyage route planning & management, crew management, administration and support vessel maintenance.
  • Perform pre-departure checks, risk assessments, and maintain vessel logs
  • Enforce safety protocols, conduct drills, and ensure compliance with maritime regulations and standards.
  • Maintain effective communication with the vessel’s crew, port authorities and shore-based personnel.
  • Liaise with survey teams, harbours, and support personnel
  • Assist with mobilisation of vessels to site, including road towing of vessels.
