POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Veterinarian – Public and Shelter Veterinary Services to join our dynamic team in Thunder Bay, Ontario. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to impacting the lives of animals while working in a region known for its beautiful natural surroundings, affordable living, and welcoming community.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the province of Ontario
  • Be a member of good standing of the CVO
  • Small animal surgical experience
  • Ability to perform up to 25 surgical sterilizations per day
  • Relevant employment experience in a veterinary clinic
  • Previous surgical experience and strong animal care knowledge, preferably in a high-volume setting
  • Ability to lift 18 kg (40lbs) and to stand for long periods
  • Open daytime availability (Monday – Friday), some on-call
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Previous supervisory experience an asset

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, with a dotted line to the Chief Veterinary Officer, our Veterinarian will be vital in supporting animal welfare through public spay/neuter surgery while contributing to a meaningful cause by expanding access to veterinary care in Northern communities. This is a region where basic veterinary services, like spay/neuter procedures, are not always available, and animal overpopulation can be a pressing concern. Duties include shelter medicine for TBDHS animals, such as preventative basic veterinary services, surgical procedures, and dental services. You’ll work alongside a compassionate and dedicated team of professionals, and your expertise will directly benefit the animals and communities in need.
