Position: Laboratory and Pharmacy Technician Our Culture: Bridgetown Veterinary Emergency and Referral (BVER) is a specialty animal hospital located in Portland Oregon. We offer specialty and emergency services and have veterinarians in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Radiology, Urgent care and Emergency and Critical Care. Bridgetown Veterinary Emergency and Referral is looking for a skilled Laboratory and Pharmacy Technician to join our dedicated team of professionals. If you have experience in a fast-paced medical environment and are committed to supporting high-quality veterinary care, we'd love to hear from you! We are currently seeking a qualified individual to work full-time hours working Thursday-Saturday, 9:00am-9:00pm. Responsibilities: • Responsible for all daily, weekly and monthly maintenance of all in-house laboratory equipment and quality controls. Maintain a schedule of quality control checks on in-house machines. • Pack and ship laboratory requests to outside labs and maintain logs on all outgoing lab requests. • Monitor stock of replacement parts/components/reagents for in house machines and reordering when needed. • Perform routine laboratory tests including bloodwork, platelet estimates, urinalysis, fecal analysis, and other diagnostic procedures. • Prepare and dispense medications accurately according to veterinary prescriptions, ensuring correct dosage, labeling and packaging. • Maintain adequate stock levels of pharmaceuticals and supplies, monitor expiration dates, and manage inventory rotation to minimize waste. • Adhere to all relevant regulations and guidelines governing the handling, storage and dispensing of veterinary medications including controlled substances. • Maintain accurate records of medication dispensing, patient prescriptions and inventory transactions using Cubex software. • Complete daily, weekly and monthly Cubex counts. • Restock Cubex as needed and assist with discrepancy reconciliation and investigation. • Ability to identify critical lab results and quickly bring them to the doctors' attention. • Maintain cleanliness of laboratory and ensure materials are stocked. • Input lab charges and ensure diagnostic results have been appropriately entered into the medical record. • Ability to troubleshoot equipment failure, unusual lab results or equipment error messages. • Call clients as it relates to prescription medications In addition: • Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary • Patient, enthusiastic, reliable, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Applicant must be able to multitask efficiently Skills and Qualifications: • At least 2 years of work experience as a veterinary professional ideally in an emergency/specialty hospital environment • Excellent written, verbal and computer skills. Previous experience with Smartflow and EzyVet preferred. • Ability to communicate in a professional, pleasant, respectful and courteous manner at all times. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities are required to do this job including close vision. This position requires walking and/or standing for long periods of time, bending, reaching, grasping, and repetitive motions. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted, 75 lbs. with assistance. Must be able to work flexible hours including some holidays, evenings and weekends. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
