Position Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dependable Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and client care, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment. The position is permanent full time and is for Monday-Friday as well as some weekend and holiday split shifts. Previous experience with Cornerstone or Avimark software is a definite asset.
**Candidates must also have their own reliable transportation as there is no public transit in Ayr.

Key Responsibilities (inclusive of but not limited to):

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Handle and restrain animals using low-stress handling techniques.
  • Clean and prepare examination rooms, surgical areas, and equipment.
  • Feed, walk, and monitor hospitalized patients.
  • Feed, medicate, and clean cages for in clinic rescue cats.
  • Assist with laboratory tests, sample collection, and basic diagnostics.
  • Maintain inventory and restock supplies.
  • Provide compassionate support to clients and patients.
  • Follow all safety and infection control protocols.
  • Veterinary Reception duties

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have previous experience working in a vet clinic and/or a Veterinary Assistant diploma or a Veterinary Administration diploma.
  • Strong work ethic, ability to work in a team, and take initiative when working alone.
  • Comfortable handling animals of various sizes and temperaments.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures, and protocols.
  • Availability to work mornings or evenings and weekends as scheduled
  • Must be able to safely lift a minimum of 25lbs
