Description

Seeking a temporary part time Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist for a small, one doctor Animal Hospital in Ridgeway, ON. Applicants must have excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. We use a team approach at the clinic with the care we give our patients/clients, and all duties are split between all staff. Applicants must be hard-working and work cohesively in a team environment. Successful candidates should show initiative and not be afraid to jump in and help wherever it is needed. Cleaning is a big part of the job as well.

Responsibilities for the job are:
· Animal Care – providing basic care to patients including feeding, bathing, walking, providing medication, and observation.
· Cleaning. The hospital needs to be kept clean on a daily basis. This includes but is not limited to: laundry, floors, taking out trash and recycling, cleaning treatment areas, surgery, exam rooms, kennels, bathrooms, reception, and doors.
- Filing. We use a combination of both electronic and paper files, and filing is a daily task.
· Proper holding and restraint of animals (Heavy lifting required – up to 50 lbs)
· Handling animals and instruments during procedures.
· Inventory maintenance – including unpacking orders and products, pricing, date checking and shelving.
· Answering phones and making appointments as required. The ability to triage emergencies and prioritize urgent appointments is a required skill, as is basic knowledge of vaccines and what they do.
· Check in/Discharge clients for surgery and appointments
· Relay appropriate information to/from clients to the doctor and/or management
· Maintain proper documentation in both paper and electronic medical records
· Technology is a large part of the clinic. The ability to use a windows based computer system, email, web search and other skills is necessary to effectively use the practice management software program. Experience with Avimark is an asset.
· Animal care, x-rays, lab work, blood collection, exam room tech, general nursing care, administering first aid for emergencies and monitoring animals under anesthesia.
-Nail Trims. Experience performing nail trims is an asset.
-Minimum of 1 year experience working in the animal care field is preferred. Students welcome.
-Training provided on the job.
