We are an expanding 12 doctor Veterinary practice with an amazing reputation in Barrie and beyond - some of our clients travel to us from as far as Sudbury! Our team is actively involved in fundraising and working with The Global Alliance for Animals and People in Canada, Central America and the Caribbean. We collect food for the Barrie Food Bank, and work with numerous rescue organizations. Our awards include the 2013 International Hospital Design of the Year Award and runner-up for the prestigious Pet Plan Veterinary Excellence Awards. We are registered as a Cat Friendly Practice and our staff are trained in Fear Free handling. We are also AAHA and CVO accredited and strive to provide high-quality care.
Our team prides itself in providing outstanding care to our patients and clients. We are looking for an amazing Veterinary Assistant to join our Rehabilitation Department.

Veterinary Assistant (Rehab)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Self-starter, motivated, able to multitask, team player
  • Enjoys caring for animals
  • Able to handle and safely restrain stressed/painful animals in a Fear Free manner
  • At least 1 + year experience working in a veterinary facility
  • Familiar with general veterinary terminology
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job:
  • Ability to lift 40lbs independently
  • Walking/standing for extended periods of time
  • Leash walking dogs of various sizes and levels of training
  • Be able to sit/kneel on the ground for extended periods of time with the patients
  • Solid communication skills with clients and fellow employees in person and in writing
  • Experience with Cornerstone is considered an asset
  • Able to remain focused and calm while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Good understanding of canine and feline body language
  • Superior observational skills
Responsibilities
  • Assist with patient care and treatment
  • Restrain and/or keep animals distracted during procedures and therapies
  • This could include: distracting with treats/pets, manual restraint (when necessary), etc.
  • Assist with consultations
  • Client Services (answering phones, booking appointments, record keeping, invoicing, client communication and education, etc.)
  • Communicating to clients and Rehab Technicians patient status, session updates, etc.
  • Maintaining equipment (underwater treadmill, exercise equipment, laser devices, etc.)
  • Maintaining water chemistries, perform water changes, clean filters, etc.
  • General cleaning of Department and any kennels used
  • Assisting with orthopedic patients (patient care, discharges, etc.)
  • Towel dry patients after hydrotherapy
