Reporting directly to the Veterinary Manager, the Veterinary Assistant is responsible for various aspects of animal care and husbandry, as well as supporting the logistical and operational needs of veterinary events held at the Oquendo Center. This role requires strict adherence to organizational standards, policies, and procedures. The Veterinary Assistant will interact with a diverse range of medical clients as well as clients from other professions attending meetings and events. Flexibility in scheduling is essential, as this position may require On-Call scheduling as needed, with potential for weekly overtime, as well as weekend and holiday shifts, based on business needs. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE SKILLS & ABILITIES Education High school diploma or equivalent. General knowledge of safety rules, regulations, and sanitization for OSHA requirements. Understanding of the policies and procedures of the Oquendo Center. Experience Experience working in labs or medical facilities, including knowledge of medical procedures. Familiarity with setting up and breaking down lab rooms and equipment for procedures. Previous experience working collaboratively with a diverse range of individuals. Proven ability to assist effectively during labs and veterinary procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement practices and enhanced techniques. SKILLS & ABILITIES Communication and Interpersonal Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to clearly explain concepts, listen actively, and consider alternative ideas. Advanced ability to read and interpret written information and edit work for clarity and grammar. Familiarity with maintaining professional boundaries while nurturing supportive relationships with staff and board members. JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES Clinical Duties: Venepuncture. Monitoring of anaesthesia. Radiography. Preparation of surgical packs, including sterilization. Administer medications as needed. Animal restraint and handling (including large animals). Animal husbandry. Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with policies and procedures; report any violations and/or safety hazards. Maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the facility. All duties included and not limited to the statutes put forth by The Nevada State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. Operational Support: Stock and maintain medical supplies. Prepare and clean rooms for events. Lab/event support as needed. Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service to all guests of the facility. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate medical records.
