  • Full time continuing position contingent on the continuation of external funding in our Primary Care department
  • Located on the Camperdown Campus at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (UVTHS)

  • a Veterinary Nursing Certificate IV and/or advanced veterinary nursing experience in a small animal veterinary hospital environment
  • knowledge of a large range of veterinary, surgical, and medical procedures
  • demonstrated ability to cope with emergencies and stressful situations
  • demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team
  • good attention to detail
  • a willingness and ability to work varying rostered shifts supporting the UVTHS activities, including evenings and weekends
  • the ability to communicate with veterinary professionals and academic staff
  • the ability to lift animals up to 16kg and heavier animals with assistance (mechanical and/or team lifting), adhering to the University’s Heavy Lifting Policy
  • competence and experience in best practice veterinary anaesthesia
  • experience working in a veterinary teaching hospital environment preferred.
Responsibilities
  • assist clinicians and veterinary students with treatments, consultations and prepare for & assist with clinical procedures
  • provide support for clinical teaching and professional nursing assistance with clinical cases
  • clean and maintain clinical spaces
  • care for and maintain instruments and equipment
  • handle telephone and face-to-face enquiries, basic triage, and admission and discharge of patients
  • nurse consultations including but not limited to, weight clinic, post operative checks, flea and worming discussions.
  • performing general anaesthesia for a variety of procedures
