Description

Alpine 24/7 Pet Hospital is a veterinary hospital in central Calgary that offers a combination of veterinary services including general practice, emergency and walk-in care, and surgical specialty services. We are a growing, busy hospital and we are looking for new members to help fill our veterinary assistant roles at the hospital.

SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Animal handling experience in a clinic setting is preferred
  • One or more years of relevant experience preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy would be considered an asset
  • Completion of a VTA program would be considered an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities under limited supervision
  • Employ problem-solving skills and analysis, and effectively communicate with veterinarians and support staff
  • Capacity to work well during distressing situations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong service orientation

Responsibilities
  • Liaise with courier services and laboratories to ensure that samples are delivered and collected on time
  • Provide care for patients in the hospital including feeding, walking, and changing out bedding.
  • Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
  • Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, and examination rooms
  • Assist doctors and technicians with the collection of samples such as blood, urine, or tissue for testing
  • Assist doctors and technicians with routine laboratory tests such as radiograph and ultrasound
  • General upkeep and cleaning of the work area when needed
  • Act as an effective team member and maintain a positive atmosphere in the workplace
