This position is supervised by: Shelter Medical Services Supervisor This position supervises/manages: None Job Summary: Responsible for providing daily routine care for animals under veterinary care in the general shelter population. Perform intake medical and behavior evaluations and intake diagnostics/treatments in compliance with established protocols. Summary of Essential Responsibilities: •    Care for, feed, monitor and medicate shelter animals. •    Perform all work in accordance with SPCA of Texas protocol. •    Humanely treat and care for all animals entrusted to the SPCA of Texas. •    Evaluate animals medically and behaviorally; assess overall condition; clip nails, screen for parasites, clean ears. •    Administer medications and vaccines as directed. •    Perform point-of-care tests, distal blood draws and fecal testing. •    Report observed behavior issues to supervisor and/or veterinarians. •    Fill in for other areas/positions by performing tasks/functions as needed. •    Actively engage with volunteers in such a way that provides support for our volunteers and staff and proactively improves our volunteer program. •    Be an ambassador for the SPCA of Texas, sharing the work and mission with your friends and family and be knowledgeable of the various ways to support our work. Summary of Essential Job Tasks: •    Must possess clear verbal and written communication skills to ensure accurate reporting of staff, animal health, or equipment concerns. •    Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior. •    Collect, prepare and label samples for laboratory testing, culture or microscopic examination. •    Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures. •    Follow all written and verbally communicated departmental standard operating procedures. Abilities Required: •    Static Strength: the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 40 pounds. •    Judgment and Decision Making: the ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. •    Oral and Written Expression: the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. •    Monitoring: the ability to monitor and assess the performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action. •    Emotional and Mental Requirements: the ability to work effectively under stressful conditions. Ability to rapidly and accurately process information. Applicant Information: •    The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week. Shift times may vary and include weekend hours. Normally scheduled 5 days per week, 8 hours per day between the hours of 7am and 7pm.
Responsibilities
