Responsibilities include: Monitor and provide nursing care for hospitalized surgical patients Perform post-operative patient assessments and pain management Conduct diagnostic laboratory testing Place and maintain IV catheters and drains Change bandages and manage wound care needs Obtain radiographs (x-rays) and assist with diagnostics Administer medications, fluids, and injections (IV/IM) Assist with surgical support when needed Draw blood and perform clinical laboratory procedures Maintain accurate patient records and treatment updates Fill prescriptions and document patient charges Assist with emergency surgical cases when applicable Educate pet owners on discharge instructions and medication administration What We're Looking For Veterinary Technician experience required Interest in specialty and surgical medicine preferred Knowledge of pharmacology and ability to calculate accurate drug and fluid doses Comfortable handling and restraining patients safely and compassionately Strong attention to detail and clinical judgment Ability to work independently overnight while collaborating with the broader hospital team Excellent communication and client service skills Work Environment Working in veterinary medicine means being comfortable with the physical demands and inherent risks of animal care. Team members must follow safety protocols and use proper handling techniques to minimize risk of injury from bites, scratches, or kicks. Requirements Experience & Education Minimum 2–3+ years of experience in a veterinary clinical setting required Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) preferred, but not required Technical & Clinical Skills Safe animal handling and restraint techniques Venipuncture and blood collection Temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPR) assessment IV catheter placement and maintenance Knowledge and application of medical math Anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery Radiology knowledge and radiation safety practices General animal anatomy and physiology Pain assessment and management Operating room (OR) etiquette and aseptic technique Understanding and use of medical terminology and abbreviations Professional Skills Strong adaptability and ability to navigate change in a growing environment Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills Strong customer service and client communication abilities Ability to build positive working relationships across teams Comfortable training and supporting others when needed Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Computer proficiency and ability to learn hospital systems Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective in high-stress situations Ability to de-escalate concerns and resolve conflict constructively Comfortable working with diverse personalities in a fast-paced environment Additional Requirements Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English Availability to travel within the Phoenix metro area based on business needs
