The Opportunity KOMODO is seeking a VFX Engineer to define the visual identity of Nanos, a competitive PvP game built in Unreal Engine. You will design and implement high-quality real-time visual effects that enhance gameplay, communicate impact, and elevate the overall presentation. This includes developing shaders, particle systems, and visual feedback that support the fast-paced action of the game. Your role will focus on building efficient, optimized effects that look great while maintaining strong performance. You will collaborate closely with artists, designers, and engineers to achieve visual excellence across all aspects of the project. A successful candidate will bring their experience and passion for combining artistry with technical skills to enhance the gameplay experience. You will thrive in collaboration with a cross-disciplinary team and strive to create visual effects that are both striking and performant, elevating the overall look and feel of the game. Strong proficiency creating real-time VFX in Unreal Engine (Niagara, Material Editor, Blueprints) Solid understanding of shader programming using HLSL or node-based workflows Ability to optimize visual effects for performance while maintaining quality Experience profiling and improving GPU and CPU performance for real-time effects Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines High proficiency in English communication. The ability to clearly explain technical concepts and creative ideas is strongly preferred Tech Stack (Engineering) Unreal Engine (Niagara, Material Editor, Blueprints) HLSL Git Profiling and optimization tools such as Unreal Insights or RenderDoc Preferred Qualifications Experience creating effects for stylized or anime-inspired games Familiarity with lighting, post-processing, and real-time rendering optimization Background in both technical implementation and creative problem-solving Japanese communication ability is a plus Performance-based Profits sharing KOMODO Special Leave ( 5-business day Summer holiday, 7 business Winter holiday, 1-day Birthday holiday and 1day Game Launch Day ) Paid leave by Japanese labor laws.
