Location: Geisinger Wyoming Valley (GWV) Shift: Rotation (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Worker Type: Regular Exemption Status: Yes Job Summary: Geisinger is seeking an Emergency Medicine physician with a proven record in clinical research to join our team as the Vice Chair of Research for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Job Duties: At Geisinger, our goal is to make better health possible through research! We leverage our high-quality patient care; fully integrated healthcare system; large, stable patient population; advanced electronic health record; and clinical data warehouse to create healthcare services and delivery which will improve quality of care while enhancing access and affordability. In 2023, our Emergency Department published 21 peer-reviewed articles and three book chapters/textbooks and presented our work at 70 scientific conferences. System-wide we had >$57 million in external grant and contract revenue, >1,400 active research projects, including clinical trials, and >1,090 publications. The Vice Chair of Research for the Department of Emergency Medicine (EM) will: Collaborate with the Clinical and Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine, along with Geisinger Research Institute Leadership, to develop and execute a strategic research plan that aligns with and advances the Department of Emergency Medicine’s mission. Lead the coordination, development, and continuous quality improvement of research activities within the Department of Emergency Medicine, serving as the primary point of contact for research-related inquiries and projects. Partner with the Geisinger core research team to coordinate initiatives and projects that support and enhance the Emergency Medicine research mission at Geisinger. Collaborate with Emergency Medicine residency program leadership to foster resident learning and active engagement in research activities. Support Emergency Medicine leadership and core faculty in initiatives to increase faculty participation and productivity in research and scholarly endeavors. Provide oversight and guidance to the research coordinator, ensuring alignment with departmental research objectives. Work with the Emergency Medicine residency program director to ensure compliance with ACGME RRC research-related regulations and standards. This full-time role is divided into 40% research and 60% clinical duties and includes the support of a dedicated full-time Research Project Manager who assists in advancing the department's mission and research initiatives. Education and experience (Required): Career emergency physician with proven research experience, including success in obtaining and leading federally funded or equivalent research. Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice. Board certification in emergency medicine by ABEM or AOBEM. Experience in research mentoring and collaborative program building. Embedded, multi-disciplinary team of care managers and clinical pharmacists in emergency departments to create a holistic, streamlined process from triage to discharge.
