OFN is seeking a Vice President, Data Engineering to lead the design, development, and scaling of our enterprise data warehouse and analytics ecosystem. Reporting directly to the SVP of Data, this role is both strategic and hands-on: you will shape the vision for OFN’s data engineering practice while also coding, architecting, and delivering the core systems that power data-driven insights across the organization. This is a pivotal role in OFN’s multi-year digital transformation, which includes the launch of a new Member Portal and the adoption of a Microsoft-first data architecture. The VP will be instrumental in building the technical foundation that supports analytics, member engagement, and AI-driven insights for OFN and its nationwide CDFI network. Key Responsibilities Leadership & strategy Serve as the senior leader for data engineering within OFN, reporting to the SVP of Data. Own the roadmap for OFN’s data platform and associated pipelines, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and member needs. Partner with leaders across Membership, Research, Policy, Investment Services, and Capitalization to translate business needs into scalable data solutions. Establish engineering best practices, governance frameworks, and processes for documentation, testing, and monitoring. Manage, mentor, and grow a team of data engineers and technical contractors. Technical leadership & development Lead the build-out of OFN’s enterprise data platform in Microsoft Fabric, ensuring scalability, performance, and governance. Actively contribute as a senior developer, writing and reviewing production-quality code while setting engineering standards for the team. Design, build, and maintain data pipelines and integrations that power OFN’s enterprise data platform and reporting ecosystem. Develop efficient, scalable data models and workflows that enable secure analytics, self-service reporting, and advanced insights. Leverage a modern cloud and SaaS-oriented stack (e.g., data warehousing, pipeline automation, BI/visualization, identity/security services) with an emphasis on Microsoft-first solutions. Ensure solutions are architected for long-term extensibility (e.g., LLM-ready data pipelines, unstructured document ingestion, AI/ML integration). Stakeholder Engagement Collaborate with executive leadership to champion the value of data-driven decision making. Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders with clarity and confidence. Act as a change agent within OFN, helping teams adopt new technologies, workflows, and data-driven practices. Candidate Profile Required Qualifications 10+ years of progressive experience in data engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role. Proven ability to architect, build, and scale cloud-based data platforms and pipelines, with hands-on expertise in modern data warehouses (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Databricks, Redshift, or BigQuery). Strong coding proficiency in SQL and a modern programming language (preferably Python) for data transformation, automation, and integration. Experience designing and optimizing data pipelines and ingestion workflows using cloud-native or SaaS tools (e.g., Airbyte, Azure Data Factory, or similar). Demonstrated success in developing secure, performant data models and analytics layers that power enterprise reporting and decision-making. Proficiency in business intelligence and visualization platforms, especially Power BI, with knowledge of comparable tools (Tableau, Looker) a plus. Strong grounding in data governance, metadata management, security frameworks, and role-based access controls, ideally in a Microsoft Azure environment. Track record of leading engineering teams through digital transformation initiatives, balancing high-level architecture with hands-on development and delivery. Understanding of data cataloging, lineage, and metadata management to support governance and compliance.
